Almogran tablets contain the active ingredient Almotriptan, a serotonin agonist. It is a painkiller that is specifically used for the relief of migraine attacks.
The cause of migraine attacks is not fully understood although it is believed that the widening of the brain’s blood vessels causes the throbbing pain of migraine headaches. This medication relieves the pain by causing the blood vessels in the brain to narrow.
Almogran works by stimulating the brain’s receptors called serotonin receptors. The natural substance serotonin normally acts on the receptors to cause the blood vessels to narrow. Almogran mimics the action of serotonin by stimulating the brain’s serotonin receptors. This results in the narrowing of the blood vessels, leading to the relief of pain of migraine headaches.
A dose of Almogran should be taken as soon as a migraine headache started although the medicine is also effective if taken at a later stage during the migraine attack.
The main benefit of Almogran is the relief that it provides during a migraine attack. It effectively works to narrow the blood vessels resulting in the relief of the throbbing pain of a migraine attack.
Strictly follow the recommendations of your doctor on how to take this medicine. It is important that you read first the Patient Information leaflet that comes with the package of the medicine when you fill up the prescription.
Almogran tablets should be used only when there is an actual migraine attack. It is not to be used to prevent migraine attacks or headaches.
Almogran tablets may be taken with or without a meal. The tablets should be taken by mouth with a glass of water.
One tablet of Almogran should be taken right away at the start of a migraine attack. The medication will also be effective if taken at a later stage during the migraine attack.
If the first dose of Almogran did not provide relief to a migraine headache do not take another dose for the same attack. The effectiveness of the second tablet has not been proven in clinical studies.
If the first dose of this medication relieves your migraine headache, but a headache comes back, you can take a second dose of the medicine. However, you should not take the second dose of Almogran within two hours of your first dose.
Do not take more than two tablets of Almogran in a day.
The dose of Almogran that is typically prescribed for adults aged between 18 and 65 is one 12.5 mg tablet to be taken as soon as possible right after the start of the migraine attack. Do not take another dose of this medication if your migraine headache does not subside. Do not take more than one tablet for the same attack.
If you experience a second migraine attack with a 24-hour period, a second 12.5 mg tablet may be taken but you have to make sure that there is a gap of at least 2 hours between the first and the second tablets.
An individual can take only a maximum of two 12.5 mg tablets within a 24-hour period.
