Description

Effective

nystan 30ml is an effective treatment of oral thrush as well as other infections caused by fungi. The medication does this by killing the fungus at fault and stopping it from spreading further.

Targeted action

For example, nystan 30ml oral suspension is an ideal antifungal medication option for oral thrush because it works locally (meaning you can target a specific area like the mouth). This is unlike other antifungal medications that work systemically (they affect the whole body).

Lower risk of systemic side effects

As mentioned, Nystan works locally (not systemically) which also means it is not really taken up into the blood. This results in a lower risk of systemic side effects (i.e effects on the whole body such as fever).

Rapid effect

Nystan works fairly quickly and you are likely to start seeing an improvement in your symptoms within around 2 days of starting Nystan treatment.

Range of application forms

Nystan can come in a range of forms from a cream to a liquid. This means it can be used for different problems as you can choose an application method that is most suitable.

Nystatin oral suspension is an antifungal medicine that is used to treat oral thrush, a condition that is caused by the exponential growth of a natural fungus known as Candida in the mouth.

The symptoms of oral thrush include:

i) A bad taste in the mouth

ii) Cracks at the corners of the mouth

iii) Difficulty eating or drinking

iv) Mild bleeding when the lumps are scraped off

v) Pain or burning sensation in the mouth

vi) White bumps on the tongue, inner cheeks, gums or tonsils

If you notice any of the above symptoms for the first time, you should speak to a doctor. Not only can a doctor prescribe a suitable treatment for you, such as Nystatin, but they can also assess the cause of your condition and advise steps on how to reduce your risk of developing oral thrush in the future.

Nystatin oral suspension is prescribed for the treatment of oral fungal infections. Additionally, systemic medications such as Fluconazole (Diflucan) and Canesten thrush Duo are also recognized for their efficiency in treating fungal infections throughout the body.

There are many risk factors that could cause someone to be more susceptible to oral thrush including:

i)Diabetes

ii) HIV

iii) Taking antibiotics

iv) Taking corticosteroids (such as preventer inhalers)

v) Wearing dentures

vi) Smoking

vii) Having a dry mouth from a medical condition or treatment

Your doctor or dentist can diagnose oral thrush based on the visual symptoms, sometimes referred to as the clinical image. In some cases, a sample of the spores may be taken and examined under a microscope. Your doctor may recommend a blood test to determine if there may be an underlying medical condition that may put you at a higher risk of developing oral thrush.

Following our quick and simple medical questionnaire, our doctors can issue a prescription for Nystatin that our UK-registered pharmacy can fulfill. Not sure if you have oral thrush? Take the oral thrush quiz on privatemdlabs.com.

Nystatin works by weakening the cell walls of the fungus, allowing the contents of the cell to spill out, thus killing the cell and clearing the infection. It does this by attaching to a compound called ergosterol, which the cells need to maintain their cell membrane. This causes the cell wall to become weak and lose its structural integrity. While you may notice an improvement in your symptoms within a day or two of taking Nystatin, it is important to continue to take Nystatin for the full period prescribed by your doctor to eradicate your infection. Similarly, to antibiotics, ceasing Nystatin treatment early can cause the infection to come back. Therefore, it is important to complete your course of antifungal medication as prescribed by a doctor.

You should take Nystatin oral suspension as prescribed by your doctor.

The recommended dose for adults is 1ml of suspension dropped into the mouth four times a day. You should take Nystatin after each meal and before you go to bed.
