Lisinopril

Before starting Lisinopril, it’s important to consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any doubts. Once you commence treatment, your doctor may conduct blood tests and adjust your dosage accordingly to ensure you’re taking the appropriate amount. When taking Lisinopril, swallow the tablet with water at consistent times each day, regardless of food intake, as it’s a long-term treatment regimen. It’s crucial to adhere to the prescribed dosage continuously as instructed by your doctor. Initially, or if your dosage is increased, be cautious as Lisinopril may induce a significant drop in blood pressure, potentially causing dizziness or light-headedness. If experienced, lying down may help alleviate these symptoms, but if concerns persist, promptly consult your doctor. The dosage for adults varies based on individual medical conditions and concurrent medications, with specific instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist for the daily intake of tablets. Always seek clarification from your healthcare provider if unsure about dosage instructions. For more details on taking this medication please refer to the Patient Information Leaflet.

While not everyone experiences side effects, it’s crucial to recognise and promptly address any adverse reactions while taking Lisinopril. If you encounter severe allergic reactions, such as sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or severe itching of the skin with raised lumps, discontinue Lisinopril and seek immediate medical attention. Additionally, if you develop severe skin disorders like an unexpected rash or burning sensation, or experience symptoms of infection such as fever coupled with a decline in general health or localized symptoms like sore throat, mouth, or urinary problems, it’s imperative to consult your doctor promptly. Common side effects that may occur include headaches, dizziness or light-headedness upon standing quickly, diarrhoea, persistent dry cough, vomiting, and potential kidney problems as indicated by blood tests. If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s advisable to discuss them with your healthcare provider. For a full list of side effects please refer to the Patient Information Leaflet or consult your doctor.

Lisinopril contains the active substance lisinopril in varying strengths: 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg, as anhydrous lisinopril (in the form of lisinopril dihydrate). Each tablet consists of anhydrous lisinopril alongside excipients including calcium hydrogen phosphate, maize starch, mannitol, pregelatinized maize starch, magnesium stearate, and iron oxide red (for 5 mg) or iron oxide yellow (for 10 mg and 20 mg).

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning to conceive, or suspect you might be pregnant, it’s crucial to seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist before taking Lisinopril. In cases of pregnancy, inform your doctor immediately. Typically, your doctor will recommend discontinuing Lisinopril prior to conception or as soon as pregnancy is confirmed, suggesting an alternative medication. It’s important to note that Lisinopril is not advisable during early pregnancy and should not be taken beyond the third month, as it may pose serious risks to the developing baby. Similarly, if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed, notify your doctor. Lisinopril is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers, and your doctor may suggest an alternative treatment, especially if your baby is newborn or premature.
